Professor Dr. Assem El-Shazly obtained his PhD in Pharmacognosy, Faculty of Pharmacy, Zagazig University (1995), through a joint supervision scholarship with the Institute of Pharmaceutical Biology, Heidelberg University, Germany.
Academic Leadership
Professor Dr. El-Shazly currently serves as President of El Saleheya El Gadida University, and Professor Emeritus of Pharmacognosy at the Faculty of Pharmacy, Zagazig University.

Research Excellence
He received several postdoctoral research grants from the German Research Foundation (DFG) and Heidelberg University, Germany. His research focuses on the isolation, identification, and quantification of secondary metabolites from toxic, medicinal, and aromatic plants.
He collaborated with international research teams in the discovery of natural antiviral agents (COVID-19), anti-inflammatory compounds, analgesics, antipyretics, hepatoprotective, gastroprotective, neuroprotective agents, and antidiabetic compounds (Type II).
He successfully led a major research project as principal investigator, participated in two additional projects, supervised 8 Master’s and PhD theses, published more than 100 peer-reviewed scientific articles, and co-authored two book chapters.
