Abstract
Although metals have been utilized for many centuries, only in the last century have their hazardous and nutritional impacts been studied. Among the common toxic heavy metals are lead, arsenic, mercury, chromium, and cadmium. As their exposure to humans increase, organ problems increase; it is necessary to examine the most current developments in toxic metal therapy. Once within the body, hazardous metals bond to biomolecules like proteins and DNA, cause oxidative stress, and interfere with enzyme activity to impair cellular functioning. Inflammation and cellular damage result from this. Heavy metal poisonings continue to occur frequently, especially in poor nations, despite our present understanding of their dangers. To manage, prevent, and treat metal poisoning at different levels—from workplace exposure to accidents and environmental factors—many public health initiatives have been implemented. Following an introduction, we provide a brief description of each metal poisoning's exposure pathways, clinical and experimental manifestations, and prognosis in this overview.
